Kuleana Coral Restoration
Our vision:
A Hawaiʻi with resilient coral reef ecosystems, supporting ocean health and human health, managed by resilient coastal communities.
Kuleana Coral Restoration was founded in 2019 by a diverse team of Native Hawaiians, scientists, and ocean advocates determined to restore the degraded coral reefs surrounding their home island of Oʻahu.
Now, our organization is on a mission to restore, protect and monitor Hawaiian coral reefs, to foster resilient coastal communities.
In Hawaiian, “kuleana” means “responsibility,” and implies a deep reciprocal relationship between the person who is responsible and the resource that they are responsible for.
This is how we fulfill our kuleana.

Community-Based Coral Restoration Areas
Rooted in West Oʻahu
Kuleana Coral Restoration works to a fulfill our mission with restoration sites Hawaiʻi, based from West Oʻahu. While our work is expanding rapidly, our core work is to build resilience to our community in West Oʻahu through restoration sites, community partnerships, and empowering residents to join our mission.
Thanks to our long-term partnership with Ko Olina, we launch our boat and dive operations from Ko Olina Marina, and train our team and community members at our Restoration Training Hub.
